In 2014, the Founder Institute (world’s largest entrepreneur training and startup launch program) first launched in Kabul, Afghanistan, receiving a tremendous response. In fact, over 575 people attended the program's entrepreneurship events in the city - the second largest number for any of the Founder Institute’s 80 locations at that time. After undergoing an intensive four-month training program featuring top business mentors, four promising new technology companies successfully graduated and were launched in Kabul.

As we get ready to launch the 2015 Kabul Founder Institute, we want to bring twenty of the world’s top technology founders to Afghanistan to see the potential for entrepreneurship in the country, and to provide both our companies and the local ecosystem with the necessary training, advice, and feedback needed to grow and prosper.

The Founder Institute has a global network of over 4,000 top entrepreneur mentors, but bringing them to Afghanistan and running a semester is Afghanistan is very expensive. In particular, the travel costs for bringing international mentors to Afghanistan is very high, including roundtrip airfare, visa fees, secure private housing, secure ground travel, and full private security for their time in the country.

What is the Kabul Founder Institute?

The Founder Institute is the world’s largest entrepreneur training and startup launch program, with a mission to “Globalize Silicon Valley” and build sustainable startup ecosystems across the globe. In this four month program, promising founders “learn by doing” and launch a tech company through structured training courses, practical business-building assignments, and expert feedback from a large network of business mentors. Based in Silicon Valley, the program now runs chapters in over 100 cities worldwide, and has graduated some of the world's fastest growing startups - like Udemy, Zirtual, iCarsClub, and many more.

In the 2014 Kabul Founder Institute, over 575 people attended our entrepreneurship events, and over 100 aspiring entrepreneurs applied to the program. Graduates of the first semester of the Kabul Founder Institute included promising entrepreneurs in the fields of hospitality, education, IT services, and e-commerce, like;

The Opportunity in Afghanistan

We believe that private sector growth is the key to developing a sustainable and diversified economy, and Afghanistan has the potential to become a major technology hub in Central Asia.

By bringing in top global entrepreneurs to support young startups in Kabul, we believe that we can continue growing the Afghanistan startup ecosystem.

We need your help!

The goal of Founder Institute and its Directors is simple:

Help build the entrepreneurial ecosystem of Afghanistan by focusing on the burgeoning technology sector, which has been encouraged by the quick pace of development in the country’s telecom industry; an increasing number of young adults in higher education; and the growth of tech centric entrepreneurs.

Technology can be the future of Afghanistan, but we can’t do it alone.

Help us bring some of the world’s top minds in technology entrepreneurship to Kabul, in order to help our promising entrepreneurs receive the necessary guidance and feedback to be successful.
